Hapag-Lloyd introduces US$155/TEU Panama Canal charge

Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a new Panama Canal Charge for shipments from Oceania to the US East Coast and Latin America.

The new charge will be set at US$155 per TEU.

Charge takes effect in October

The Panama Canal Charge will apply to applicable shipments from 17 October 2026.

For shipments subject to US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) tariff filing and notice requirements, the effective date will follow the applicable regulatory requirements.

Hapag-Lloyd said the surcharge will be applied according to the relevant tariff terms.

The Panama Canal Charge will appear separately on customers’ freight invoices.

The carrier did not provide further details on the reason for introducing the new charge.
